THE POSITION

Position Title:    Visitor Services Representative

Location:           Chicago, IL and Skokie, IL

Reports To:        Visitor Services Manager

The Visitor Services Representative is responsible for supporting many aspects of Museum services that help create an excellent visitor experience.  Responsibilities in the Representative role include Admissions, Information Desk, Membership Desk, Holographic Theater, Virtual Reality Gallery, and Legacy Shop. The Representative will often be the first person guests encounter when entering the Museum. Always providing expert customer service, the Representative will be responsible for onsite ticket sales, visitor check-in for those who purchase tickets online, operation and oversight of VR showings, guide and orientation for guests, and respond to specific needs of visitors. The Representative will need to be knowledgeable about the function and schedule at the Museum to successfully help guests with current and upcoming exhibitions, the length of time needed to explore the Museum, and any events or programs happening inside the Museum space. This position requires working between 20 and 28 hours per week, including weekends and some evenings.    

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Visitor Services Representative’s key responsibilities include:

• Process admission tickets, membership, and merchandise sales.
• Provide visitors with information about exhibitions, wayfinding, merchandise, etc.
• Execute opening and closing procedures including register management.
• Stay up to date on the Museum’s exhibitions, history, and local knowledge.
• Assist co-workers with Public Programs, Education programs, and special events.
• Monitor upkeep of the Legacy Shop merchandise displays and appearance
• Ensure that all products are entered, tagged, and replenished.
• Opening and operating Virtual Reality Gallery and the Holographic Theater.
• Maintain safe, stocked, and attractive front desk, lobby area, and some exhibition spaces
• Train and support Museum volunteers.
• Help manage our online store.
• Answer phone inquiries.
• Other duties as assigned.

THE PERSON

Education | Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Previous museum, customer service, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Previous experience using electronic point-of-sale systems preferred.

• Ability to express a cheerful and positive attitude with all visitors, volunteers, and staff.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Ability to engage with a diverse audience.
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

THE POSITION 

Position Title: Associate Director of Security Operations  

Location: Skokie, IL and Chicago, IL  

Reports To: Director of Security & Emergency Management  

The Associate Director of Security Operations serves as the operational leader for IHMEC's Security & Emergency Management program and acts as a key strategic partner to the Director of Security & Emergency Management. Responsible for the day-to-day management, supervision, and performance of IHMEC's security operations, the Associate Director helps advance departmental priorities while translating security strategies, policies, and standards into effective operational practices. The position provides leadership for security personnel, emergency response, event security, vendor relationships and operational readiness, while serving as a trusted resource for internal and external stakeholders. This is an exempt, full-time, onsite position that requires one weekend day and occasional evening availability. 

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Partner with the Director to advance department security strategies, initiatives, and priorities, and provide recommendations regarding security operations, risk management, technology, staffing, and continuous improvement opportunities.   
• Serve as the designated department representative in the Director’s absence, providing leadership continuity, representing the department with internal and external stakeholders, and exercising appropriate decision-making authority consistent with the established policies and the Director’s direction.
• Establish, implement, and continuously evaluate department operating procedures, resulting in effective, consistent, and compliant security operations. 
• Provide direct leadership of contract and in-house security personnel, including onboarding, training, scheduling, time and attendance monitoring, and performance management.
• Coordinate security operations for Museum programs, special events, and VIP visits, ensuring appropriate staffing, preparedness, and risk mitigation. 
• Manage security vendors, contracts, and service providers in partnership with the Director to ensure performance, compliance, and accountability. 
• Document, investigate, and analyze safety and security incidents, lead post-incident reviews, and implement improvements to strengthen protocols and operational readiness.
• Assist in the development and management of the departmental budget, including resource allocation, invoice review, and fiscal accountability of vendors and contractors. 
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices, security technologies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations to support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
• Support in the design and delivery of security training programs for employees and volunteers focused on situational awareness, personal safety, emergency response, and mission-aligned service. 

THE PERSON 

 Education | Experience 

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing internal and external security teams. 
• College Degree preferred. 
• Must pass a thorough criminal background check.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends. 
• Licenses or certifications, such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or comparable physical security/emergency management credentials is a plus.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information effectively to a variety of stakeholders. 
• Demonstrated ability to make quick, informed decisions, assess situations accurately, and act promptly with speed and efficiency.

• Experience exercising sound judgment, discretion with managing sensitive or confidential interactions and matters, and flexibility in shifting priorities.  
• Thorough knowledge of physical security systems, including CCTV, access control systems, walk-through metal detectors, and radio communication systems.

Position Title: Security Technology and Operations Coordinator 

Location: Skokie, IL and Chicago, IL  

Reports To: Associate Director of Security Operations 

The Security Technology and Operations Coordinator serves as the primary day-to-day resource for the Museum's security technology environment and provides operational support to the Associate Director of Security Operations. The Coordinator helps ensure the effective operation of security systems, security programs, and departmental activities. This is a non-exempt, full-time onsite position that requires one weekend day and occasional evening availability.  

SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  

•  Monitor, test, maintain, and coordinate repairs, upgrades, and vendor support for security technology systems.
• Coordinate with IT, Facilities, and external vendors to ensure the effective operation of access control, CCTV, and other security technologies.  
• Recommend technology enhancements and assist in developing policies, procedures, and standards related to security systems.  
• Support daily security operations, staffing coordination, event security, and visitor and employee protection initiatives.  
• Assist with incident response, post-order development, after-action reviews, and emergency preparedness activities, drills, and exercises.  
• Maintain active involvement in frontline security operations to ensure technology solutions effectively support operational needs.

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience with administering security systems, such as video surveillance systems, access control systems, intrusion, and alarm systems. 
• College Degree preferred. 
• Must pass a thorough criminal background check.

• Working knowledge of security technology and investigations, security communication systems, alarm and video surveillance systems.
